If you’re not already registered to vote but you have a current Texas Driver License or ID card, you can register to vote online when you renew, replace, or change your address with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
To renew, replace, or change your address online, follow the steps on the Texas by Texas (TxT) online driver license renewal service. You will have the option to register to vote during this process.
If you need to update your name or address on your voter registration, use Texas.gov Voter Name and Address Change online system. This is a free service offered to registered Texas voters who need to submit name and/or address changes.
How do I change my name or address on my voter registration?
You can use the Texas.gov Voter Name and Address Change online system to update the information on your voter registration. This is a free service offered to registered Texas voters who need to submit name and/or address changes.
Please note: You must have the following information to use this online service: current Texas Driver License or ID, Social Security Number, and Voter Registration Card VUID (Voter Unique Identifier) Number. You can get your VUID number from your County's Voter Registrar.
I don’t have my Voter Unique Identifier Number (VUID). How do I update my voter registration?
You can use the “Am I Registered” lookup on the My Voter Portal with information like your name, Texas driver license/ID number, date of birth, and/or county. Once you login, the system will show your VUID.

Can I vote by mail?
Under Texas law, only certain individuals are eligible to vote by mail, including those who are:
- 65 and older,
- disabled,
- or outside of the county while in-person voting is taking place.

Can I change my political party?
After affiliating with a party by voting in a party’s primary or by taking an oath of affiliation with a party, a voter cannot change their party affiliation during the calendar year. (§162.010) However, affiliation automatically expires at the end of the calendar year. For more information, please visit the VoteTexas.gov website.
Do I have to vote in the primary in order to vote in the general election?

How do I un-register to vote?
To cancel your voter registration, please contact your county’s voter registration official. To find your county’s voter registration official, please visit the Texas Secretary of State website.
