The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) promotes and protects the health of people, and the communities where they live, learn, work, worship, and play.

Texas Health and Human Services, also known as the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), supports the needs of mothers, children and families through programs such as Medicaid, CHIP, SNAP, women’s health and behavioral health services. HHSC provides long-term services and supports for seniors and people with disabilities, and operates state supported living centers for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and state psychiatric hospitals. HHSC also regulates health care providers, professions and facilities to protect the health and safety of Texans.

The Texas Funeral Service Commission (TFSC) protects the public from deceptive practices in the funeral and death care industry through impartial enforcement, inspections, licensing, and education, ensuring final dispositions are conducted professionally and ethically.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) works to build on strengths of families and communities through investigations, services, and referrals to keep children and vulnerable adults safe, so they thrive.

The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) helps people with developmental disabilities (DD) achieve their potential for independence, productivity, and integration into their communities through the development of a comprehensive system of services and supports.
