Texas by Texas, or TxT for short, is your account for Texas government services. 

When you create a TxT account, you’ll have an easy, fast, and secure way to officially take care of Texas government to-dos like driver license/ID renewal and replacement, vehicle registration renewal, boat registration renewal, and more. Even better, TxT keeps track of your upcoming deadlines, reminds you when it’s time to take action, and lets you wrap up transactions in just a few clicks. Learn more at www.texas.gov/TxT.

NEW! As of June 2026, we’re allowing even more users – both in-state and out-of-state – to create TxT accounts if you provide the required information and pass TxT’s identify verification process. Read the “What information do I need to create a TxT account” FAQ for more details. 

TxT is available via a web browser at https://txt.texas.gov. TxT works best on current and previous major releases of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Safari, Samsung Internet, Android Webview, Amazon Silk, and Opera. 

TxT is also available as an iOS and Android app. Download it now from the Apple or Google Play stores. 

Please note: You can create an account, sign in to your existing account, and complete transactions on either the web application or the mobile app.

To create a TxT account, you must provide your personal email address, mobile phone number, current Texas driver license (DL) or ID, and Social Security number. If you don’t have a current Texas DL/ID and you’re 18 years of age or older, you may be able to create a TxT account by providing your personal email address, mobile phone number, and Social Security number. 

During the account creation process, we will use this information to verify your identity so your account stays safe. If we cannot verify your identity, you will not be able to create a TxT account. 

Please note: If you’re creating an account with your current Texas DL/ID, you must also provide the DD number (sometimes referred to as an Audit number) which is located at the bottom of your DL or ID card. If you do not have or know your DD number, you can try creating an account without your Texas DL/ID, but you will not be able to complete Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) or Texas Department of Motor Vehicle (TxDMV) services on TxT. For assistance with your Texas DL/ID information, contact DPS at (512) 424-2600 or at https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/customer_services/other.aspx.

Please note: Some services on TxT are only available to users who have a linked Texas DL/ID (e.g., DPS services like DL/ID renewal, replacement, address change, upgrade, and surrender and TxDMV vehicle registration renewal). If you don’t have a Texas DL/ID, you can still create an account to access services that are available to you and link a Texas DL/ID later.

If you’re between the ages of 16 to 18 and you have a Texas learner license or Texas ID issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), you can create a TxT account. To do that, head to https://txt.texas.gov and make sure to have the following information handy: personal email address, mobile phone number, current Texas driver license/ID, and Social Security number. 

Please note: If you're a minor, the only service you'll be able to complete on TxT is a driver license upgrade if you passed your driving skills test with a participating third-party skills testing provider. Once your "packet" has been reviewed and approved by DPS, you'll see the option to upgrade on your TxT dashboard in the To-do list. Additional TxT services will become available to you when you step-up your account once you turn 18.

No. Everyone must have their own TxT account. If you have children between the ages of 16 to 18 that have a Texas learner license or Texas ID issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), they should create their own TxT account at https://txt.texas.gov with their own personal email address, mobile phone number, current Texas driver license/ID, and Social Security number.

No. TxT is your account for Texas government services, and we want to help you keep it safe and secure. That means you should create and maintain your own TxT account and you should not share accounts with others, even family members.

If you get this error message, please try verifying your identity again. Make sure that you enter all your information correctly. If you're using your Texas DL/ID to create an account, please be aware that the DD/Audit number listed on the bottom of your card changes every time a new DL or ID is issued by DPS, so make sure you’re entering the most current information. 

If TxT is unable to verify your identity during the account creation or DL/ID renewal or replacement process, it could be because the information you entered does not match what DPS has on file. For security purposes, the Texas.gov Help Desk does not have this information and DPS cannot provide it over the phone or online. You can make an appointment with DPS for further support here: https://public.txdpsscheduler.com. 

Please note: The Texas.gov Help Desk doesn’t provide support for the DPS Appointment Scheduler application. If you need help or have questions about the DPS Appointment Scheduler, please contact DPS directly at (512) 424-2600 or email TXScheduler@dps.texas.gov. 

If you don't have the information that's required to complete TxT services, please contact the appropriate state agency for alternative options to complete services. You can use the Texas.gov State Agencies & Departments Directory  to find contact information for these agencies.

• DL/ID services - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
• Vehicle registration services - Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV)
• Boat registration services - Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD)
• Massage therapy/instructor license services - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) 

Once you've successfully created your TxT account, you may be eligible to take care of the following services on TxT. 

Please note: You must have a current Texas DL/ID linked to your account to access Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) services. If you don’t have a Texas DL/ID, you will not be able to access or complete DPS and TxDMV services. 

Renew, replace, update address, or surrender your Driver License (DL), ID, or Commercial Driver License (CDL) with DPS 

To complete DL/ID/CDL services on TxT, you must:

• Have an email address, mobile phone number, and Social Security number to create your TxT account.
• Have your valid Texas DL, ID, or CDL linked to your account. During account creation, you must provide your current DL/ID/CDL number and the 20-digit DD/Audit number. The DD/Audit number is located at the bottom of your card. If you do not have or do not know your DD number, you cannot complete services on TxT. For assistance with your Texas DL or ID card information, contact DPS at (512) 424-2600 or at https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/customer_services/other.aspx
• Be eligible for online services, as determined by DPS. To understand your eligibility to perform these services on TxT, first visit the Texas Driver License and ID Cards Online Services Eligibility page.

Upgrade your Texas learner license with DPS 

To upgrade your DL on TxT, you must: 

• Be at least 16 years old.
• Have an email address, mobile phone number, and Social Security number to create your TxT account.
• Have your valid Texas DL or ID (this includes learner’s license or provisional driver license) linked to your account. 
• Have successfully completed the necessary steps to upgrade your DL per TDLR and DPS requirements

Renew your vehicle registration with TxDMV

To renew your vehicle registration on TxT, you must:

• Have an email address, mobile phone number, and Social Security number to create your TxT account.
• Have your current Texas DL/ID linked to your account.

Also, your vehicle must:

• Be eligible for online renewal, as determined by TxDMV. 
• Be within 90 days prior to registration expiration or within 12 months after the expiration date if you have not received a citation for an expired registration. 
• Have passed an emissions inspection if you live in a designated emissions testing county.

Manage your boat registration with TPWD 

To complete boat registration services on TxT, you must:

• Have an email address, mobile phone number, and Social Security number to create your TxT account.

Also, your boat must:

• Be eligible for online services, as determined by TPWD. 
• Be within 90 days prior to expiration.

Renew your massage therapy or massage instructor license with TDLR 

To renew your massage therapy/instructor license on TxT, you must:

• Have an email address, mobile phone number, and Social Security number to create your TxT account.
• Have a current license issued by TDLR.

You can use a credit or debit card to complete transactions on TxT. TxT currently does not accept Apple Pay, Google Pay, other digital payment methods, or cryptocurrency.
